I broken two iPhone's in six months when I threw them against the wall in frustration and they shattered. It's crippling to see the iPhone keyboard disappear when you want it. Some bug can keep the iPhone keypad invisible – and just when you need it, you might see that it's missing.

From what I've gathered, the problem can occur due to a variety of reasons most notably three: the iPhone is still connected to some Bluetooth keypad, or there's some problem with an app or ill-fated software update. There are some tried and tested solutions that can help you bring back the missing software keyboard on your iOS device. Let's give them go to cut the chase!

iPhone or iPad Keyboard Missing or Not Appearing? Try These Solutions

Solution 1. Hard reset your device

The first thing you should try to resolve this issue is to reboot your device. Simply press and hold the Home and power ON/OFF buttons at once for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo on the screen.

To hard reset your iPhone 7/7 Plus, you need to press and hold the volume down button and ON/OFF button simultaneously. (Related: How to reboot iPhone/iPad without power On/OFF button.)

Solution 2. Switch off Bluetooth. Maybe Reboot once.

If you connected your iPhone to some Bluetooth device – notably the keypad – and then did not disconnect it, there's a strong chance that the iPhone still thinks that it shouldn't show the keypad.

The one way to fix this is that you switch off the Bluetooth. Maybe to reboot your iPhone once too just to be sure. Does this fix the issue?

Solution 3. Restore Your iOS Device

If none of those above solutions have worked in resolving the problem, restore your device using iTunes. Make sure to back it up before going for the kill.

Connect your iPhone or iPad to the Computer → launch iTunes → select the device → click on Restore iPhone/iPad and confirm.
